Pastors
Pastors served as shepherds of their congregations; their role was to instruct, teach, and protect the people under their charge.
Pastors were also influential people in the broader community. They often helped guide social changes, such as the difficult transition from German to English as the primary language used in worship services. In the early 1920s, the Portland pastors strongly supported the famine assistance efforts of the Volga Relief Society, helping save thousands of lives in Russia.
