Wildwood
Wildwood Restaurant and Bar, located at 1221 NW 23rd Avenue, was founded in 1994 by Portland native, author, and 1998 James Beard award winner Cory Schreiber, a descendant of the George and Elizabeth Schreiber family from Norka, Russia. The press stated that the James Beard Award was "a fitting tribute to a man who cherishes the land, its people, and produce, much in the same way as Beard, a native Oregonian himself, did. A fourth-generation restaurateur in Portland, Schreiber lives and breathes the "Cooking from the Source" mantra, emphasizing organic produce, local game, meats, seafood, and dairy products prepared in ways that allow the natural beauty and flavors of the ingredients to shine forth, unobstructed by fussy embellishments." Cory Schreiber is also a descendant of Meinert Wachsmuth and began his restaurant career at Dan & Louis Oyster Bar (at the age of 11). Schreiber moved on from Wildwood in 2007 and, in 2010, became the Culinary Artist in Residence at the International Culinary School.
