David and Katharine Schwindt

David Schwindt (Swint) was born July 10, 1828, in Norka, Russia, the son of Johannes Schwindt (born 1803) and Katharine Giebelhaus (born 1802).

David married Magdalena Schmer on December 24, 1850, and they had four children who were born in Norka:  Catharina (born April 12, 1851), Elisabeth (born 1853), Adam (born 1856) and Anna Maria (born 1858). Magdalena died on May 22, 1865, in Norka.

David married again to Katharina (Katharine) Elisabeth Vögler on September 23, 1867. She was born December 19, 1831, the daughter of Johann Adam Vögler (born 1774) and Christina Schleicher (born 1790). Katharina had first married Conrad Urbach in 1852, and they had two sons. Conrad died sometime after 1857.

David and Katharine had two sons: Johannes (born October 6, 1868) and Heinrich (born March 25, 1875).

The Schwindt family (David, Katharine, Johannes, and Heinrich) immigrated to the United States in 1887. They sailed from Bremen, Germany, and arrived in New York on June 4. The Schwindts were traveling with a large group of people from Norka. The Schwindts and other group members were living in Albina by 1891.

In 1891, David lived at 424 Sacramento Street, six lots east of Margareta Avenue (later Union Avenue and now MLK Blvd.) in 1891. His son Adam lived at 420 Sacramento, two lots to the west, and cousin Ludwig Schwindt lived between them.

David's daughter from his first marriage, Catharina, married Carl Jacob Früauf. They also resided in Portland. Catharina died on April 12, 1915.

David's son from his first marriage, Adam, married Katharina Elisabeth Bauer. They resided in Portland and later moved to Dallas and Canby, Oregon.

Katharine died on June 23, 1915, and David died on April 20, 1920.
