Henry Swint Plumbing

Heinrich Schwindt was born on March 25, 1875 in Norka, Russia, the son of David and Katharina Elisabeth Schwindt.

The Schwindt family immigrated to the United States arriving in New York on June 4, 1887 from Bremen. The Schwindt's were traveling with a large group of people from Norka. The Schwindt's and other members of this group were living in Albina by 1891. Heinrich's parents lived on the south side of Sacramento four lots east of Margareta Avenue (later Union Avenue and now MLK Blvd.) in 1891. Heinrich (now Henry Swint) appears to have gone out on his own at the young age of 16. He is listed separately in the 1891 Albina Directory as a boarder in Albina. Henry worked as a packer at the Portland Cracker Company.

By 1893, Henry was working as a plumber for Rowe & Strout while boarding at 341 Russell (near 201 NE Russell today).

In 1898, Henry married Marie "Azelia" Roy. By 1899, they were living at 348 Union Avenue North and Henry was working for J.F. Shea Plumbing where he continued working for several years. Henry and Azelia became parents to five children: Azelia, Roy Harry, Theodore Henry, Eugene David and Robert Lawrence.

By 1906, Henry had established his own plumbing business at 353 E Burnside and lived at 921 E Glisan. By 1911, the business had relocated to 782 E Ankeny. Henry and Azelia continue living at their home on Glisan into the 1920's. Azelia died in October 1931.

Henry married a second time to Anna Hansen on December 14, 1940.

Henry died on August 2, 1960 at the age of 85. He was buried at the Rose City Cemetery.
