Johann Georg Urbach was born on July 29, 1850 in Norka, Russia, the son Johannes Urbach (born 1802) and Margaretha Reich (born 1808).
Johann Georg married Margaretha Trüber on February 18, 1869 in Norka. Margaretha was the daughter of Conrad Trüber (born 1819) and Sophia Brill (born 1818).
Margaretha was the sister of Sophia Trüber, Johannes Conrad Trüber, and Johann Wilhelm Trüber, who were among the earliest Volga German settlers in Portland, along with her father, Conrad.
Johann Georg and Margaretha became the parents of at least five children who were born in Russia: Katharina Elisabeth (born April 1870); Anna Elisabeth (born May 1872); John (born April 1874); Margaretha (born June 1883), and Christina (born May 1886).
In 1900, the Urbach family immigrated to the United States. They sailed from Bremen, Germany, and arrived on April 5, 1900, in New York aboard the steamship München. The family immediately traveled to Portland to reunite with Margaretha's father, Conrad, and siblings Sophia, Johannes Conrad, and Johann Wilhelm, who had arrived several years earlier.
At the time of the 1900 U.S. Census, George and Margaret lived at 631 Union Avenue with three of their children, John, Margaret, and Christina. George was working as a day laborer.
In 1910, George and Margaret lived with their daughter Katharina Elisabeth (Lizzie) and her husband, John Miller, at 500 Failing Street.
Margaretha died on September 18, 1911.
George died on March 29, 1915.
