Ronald Hergert

Ronald (Ron) Hergert was born in Portland on October 25, 1943, to Elias and Lydia Hergert, the third of five children. His grandparents, Elisas and Mary Hergert, immigrated to the United States from Brunnental, Russia, in 1907. The elder Elias Hergert was a pastor of the St. Pauls Evangelical and Reformed Church, founded by his brother Jacob Hergert.

Ron attended Jefferson High School, where he lettered in three sports. In 1960, he was the first recipient of the Scholar-Athlete Award. Ron was a Second-Team All-State Football Quarterback, First-Team All-Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) Quarterback and Defensive Back, PIL MVP, and PIL scoring leader with 63 points. He earned Second Team All-PIL Baseball Team honors as a catcher. He was also selected as a member of the State-Metro All-Star team. He was also First Team All-PIL Basketball team. Ron was inducted into the Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) Hall of Fame.

Ron's brother, Mick Hergert, was also a standout athlete at Jefferson.

​Ron attended Lewis & Clark College (1961-1965), where he was a four-year letter winner as a basketball, football, and baseball player. Ron was selected to the First Team All-Northwest Conference Baseball Team. Ron was inducted into the Lewis & Clark College Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.

After obtaining his undergraduate degree in 1965, Ron attended Lewis & Clark Law School, graduating in 1969. He began practicing law shortly after that. In the 1970s and '80s, Ron sang with the New Oregon Singers, where he met his future wife, LeAnn Cox. In 1992, Ron founded the law firm of Hergert & Associates.

Throughout his career, Ron was honored with multiple professional awards. In addition to practicing law, Ron served as a Pro-Tem Judge in the Clackamas County Family Law court from 1990 through 2010.

Ron Hergert died on October 21, 2011.
