Johannes and Maria Catharina Bauer
Johannes (John) Bauer was born in Norka, Russia, on November 10, 1862, the son of Heinrich Peter Bauer (born 1833) and Elisabeth Yost (born 1832). John was confirmed in Norka in 1877.
John married Maria Catharina (Kate) Ross on February 2, 1884 in Norka.
Kate was born May 25, 1861, in Norka and was confirmed in 1876.
John and Kate emigrated to the United States about 1889. By 1891, the Bauers were living in Albina at the same address as John's
paternal first cousin, Adam Bauer, and his wife, Catharina Elisabeth, on the south side of San Diego (now Brazee), 5 lots east of Margaretta Avenue (now MLK Blvd.).
John's brother, George Bauer, lived nearby at the same location as Peter Weigandt.
John and Maria became members of the Ebenezer German Congregational Church, which was established in 1892.
In 1900, they were living at 328 Beech Street, and John was working as a teamster. John's brother, George Bauer, and his wife, Christina (née Jost), lived next door with their three children.
The Bauers lived at the same location in 1910, and John was working as a bartender in a saloon.
It does not appear that John and Kate had any children.
