Heinrich Peter and Anna Elisabeth Scheidemann

Heinrich Peter Scheidemann was born July 8, 1833 in Norka, Russia and was confirmed there in 1849. His parents were Martin Scheidemann (born 1812) and Magaretha Krieger (born 1812).

Heinrich Peter married Catharina Schreiber (born February 28, 1836) in Norka on January 26, 1854. They had three children and two died at an early age. The surviving daughter, Maria Magdalena, married Philipp Krieger.  Catharina died about 1860 and Heinrich Peter married again to Anna Elisabeth Sauer (also a widow) on April 24, 1861 in Norka.

Anna Elisabeth Sauer was born October 9. 1833 in Norka and was also confirmed there in 1849. She is the daughter of Johannes Sauer (born 1811) and Anna Elisabeth Weber (born 1814). Anna Elisabeth married Heinrich Schnell on February 16, 1854. Heinrich died September 18, 1858.

Henry and Anna Elisabeth had three children who were born in Norka: Johannes (born September 6, 1865), Amalie (January 13, 1869 - died on January 24, 1869) and Peter (born September 17, 1870).

Johannes married Magdalena Frühauf (born September 29, 1866 in Norka on February 21, 1889. They immigrated to the USA and arrived in Baltimore on December 9, 1889 and continued on to Portland.

Heinrich Peter and Anna Elisabeth immigrated to the United States and arrived at the port of Baltimore on November 27, 1899 aboard the steamship America which had sailed from Bremen, Germany. The passenger manifest states that they were going to Ohio. It appears that they soon traveled to Portland where they joined Anna Elisabeth's son from her first marriage, Johannes Schnell, and his wife Anna Maria who arrived in Albina about 1882.

Peter married Katharine Elisabeth (Carrie) Brill, the daughter of Constantin and Maria Christina Brill, in 1889 in Portland.

The Scheidemann's were members of the Ebenezer German Congregational Church.

The Scheidemann family was living on Sacramento Street, four lots east of Margareta Avenue (now MLK Blvd.) in 1891. Henry and Peter were working as a laborers and John was working a steam powered saw. Living with the Scheidemann's was their daughter and son-in-law, Ludwig and Lena Sauer. Both families shared the same house on north side of Sacramento Street, four lots east or Margareta Avenue (formerly Union Avenue and now MLK Blvd.).

Anna Elisabeth died in 1912 and Henry died on March 2, 1916. They are buried at the Rose City Cemetery in Portland.
