Philipp and Margaretha Hergert
Johann Philipp Hergert was born on in 1820 in the Volga German colony of Yagodnaya Polyana, Russia, He married Anna Margaretha Brecht in 1840. Margaretha was born June 20, 1820 in Yagodnaya Polyana (Berry Meadow).
Sometime in the early 1850's the Hergert's moved to the daughter colony of Schöntal, Russia.
A son, Adam, was born on born on January 29, 1855. Adam married Anna Maria Volcker in 1874.
A daughter, Catharina, was born about about 1863.
Philipp, Anna Margaretha, Catharina, Adam and his family, all immigrated to the United States in 1876 arriving in New York on October 24th aboard the steamship Mosel which sailed from Bremen, Germany. The family was traveling with a large group from Yagodnaya Polyana that first settled in Kansas. By 1880, part of the Kansas group began to consider moving west.
The Hergert's were among the first Volga German immigrants in Oregon, traveling from Kansas in 1881. Finding farmland in the Cornelius area west of Portland, the family departed from Albina by 1883. Nine more children born in Oregon would be added to the Adam and Anna Maria's family.
The Hergert's were members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Blooming, Oregon which was established in 1889.
Philipp died in 1890 and Anna Margaretha died on March 1, 1890.
