Peter and Magdalena Schmidt
Peter Schmidt was born in Russia about 1856.
Peter married Magdalena Krieger, born in Norka, Russia, on January 13, 1856, the daughter of Johannes Krieger (1831) and Magdalena Schwindt (1835). Magdalena was the sister of another early Portland pioneer, Johannes Krieger.
Peter and Magdalena had two children, Henry (abt. 1886) and Marie (abt. 1890), born in Russia.
The Schmidt family immigrated to the United States, arriving in New York on August 27, 1891, aboard the steamship Lahn, which had sailed from Bremen, Germany, and Southhampton, England.
In 1892, the Schmidt's were boarding at 406 Sellwood in the Albina district, and Peter worked as a laborer. Peter and Magdalena were among the founders of the Ebenezer German Congregation Church.
At least five more children were born in Portland: John (abt. 1893), Pauline (abt. 1895), Peter (abt. 1897), Jacob (abt. 1899) and Friedrich (March 1, 1900).
1900, the family lived on East 8th Street, and Peter worked as a milkman. Magdalena died on August 10, 1900, and by 1910, Peter was living with his three children, John, Peter, and Pauline. He's been out of work for 48 months.
Peter's place and date of death have not yet been documented.
