Johannes and Margaretha Krieger
Johannes (John) Krieger was born in Norka, Russia, on January 25, 1871, the son of Heinrich Krieger (1841) and Anna Maria Urbach (1844).
Johannes married Margaretha Spady on October 27, 1891, in Norka by Pastor Wilhelm Stärkel. Margaretha was born October 27, 1871, in Norka, the daughter of Heinrich Spady (1829) and Elisabeth Bott (1833).
Soon after their marriage, Johannes immigrated to the United States with his parents and 6 siblings, arriving in Baltimore aboard the steamship Oldenburg in January 1892. Church records show that they arrived in Lincoln, Nebraska, on January 24, 1892. For unknown reasons, Margaretha was not with Johannes and his family aboard this ship. It is presumed that she arrived at a later date.
John and Margaretha are listed as founding members of the Ebenezer German Congregational Church in 1892. However, a note in the church register indicates that she arrived in Portland on June 5, 1898.
John (also known as John H.) and Margaretha were founding members of the Zion German Congregational Church, established in 1914.
