German Evangelical Congregational Brethren Church Confirmation Classes

Confirmation was a rite of initiation in the Volga German Protestant churches and tended to be seen as a mature statement of faith by an already baptized person. Confirmation was typically required to become a member of the church and the public ceremony was usually held as part of the Palm Sunday service each year.

On September 13, 1922 the Free Evangelical Brethren Church was reorganized as the German Congregational Evangelical Brethren Church. From 1923 to 1967 all of the confirmation classes were organized as part of the newly incorporated church that was served by ordained minister rather than church elders. According to the church records, the first confirmation class was held on March 25, 1923 and 522 people were confirmed from that class until the closure of the church in 1967.
