Casper and Maria Catharina Weigant
Casper Weigant was born in Russia on February 10, 1862.
Casper married Maria Catharina (Mary) Bieker, born in the Catholic colony of Neu-Obermonjou, Russia, in May 1862. Casper and Mary were among the earliest Volga Germans to immigrate to the United States in 1875. They initially settled in Topeka, Kansas, where a son, Joseph Frank, was born on September 14, 1886.
By 1888, the family had moved to Denver, Colorado, where a second son, Anthony, was born on August 28, 1888.
By 1891, the Weigants were living in Albina on the west side of Williams, one lot west of Cedar. Casper worked as a blacksmith for the Union Pacific Railroad.
Mary gave birth to twin daughters Agnes and Mary Margaret, on April 14, 1897, in Portland. Both girls died in early childhood.
A son, Michael John, was born on August 21, 1899, and a daughter, Agnes Madeline, was born on March 13, 1901.
In 1910, the family was living in Portland. Casper and Joseph worked as blacksmiths.
Casper Weigandt died on February 27, 1930, and was buried at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Portland. Mary died October 6, 1933, and is buried with Casper.
