Adam and Katharina Margaretha Yost
Adam Yost was born in Norka, Russia, on November 10, 1864, the son of Conrad Yost (born 1839) and Anna Marie Krieger (born 1841), who were also early settlers in Portland.
On January 27, 1886, Conrad married Katharina Margaretha Spady in Norka. Katharina Margaretha was born July 24, 1864, in Norka. Her parents were Johann Peter Spady (born 1838) and Margaretha Amalia Schreiber (born 1839).
Both Adam and Katharina Margaretha were confirmed in Norka in 1879.
Two children were born in Norka: Amalia Katharina (November 14, 1887) and Johann Georg (August 15, 1888).
Adam and Katharina Margaretha (Kate) immigrated to the United States in 1890 and arrived in Portland on January 9, 1892. A son, Heinrich, was the first child to be born in the United States on May 20, 1892. Six more children would follow: Conrad (born April 13, 1897), Lydia (born February 16, 1896) and Adam (born February 15, 1898), Elizabeth C. (born July 27, 1900), William (born November 30, 1902), and, George John (born February 5, 1909).
The family was among the founding members of the Ebenezer German Congregational Church in 1892.
Adam became a naturalized citizen in 1893.
The family lived at 760 Mallory Avenue in 1900. Adam worked as a laborer in a metal factory. In 1910, the family relocated to Luckiamute, Polk, Oregon, where they owned a dairy farm. After several years, it appears that they returned to Portland.
Adam died in January 1916 and was buried at the Rose City Cemetery. At the time of his death, he lived at 659 East 11th Street North.
Kate died on December 12, 1941, in Portland.
