Richard Miller
Richard C. Miller was born on December 11, 1923 in Portland, Oregon, the son of Alexander Miller and Magdalena Miller (née Yost). Alexander Miller arrived in the United States in August 1906. Magdalena (Lena) Yost arrived in the United States in May 1890. The Miller and Yost families emigrated to the United States from Balzer and Norka, Russia. For a time, the family farmed in the West Philomath area of Benton County. By 1930 Alexander was working in the garbage collection business in Portland.
Richard was selected as All-City Center for his outstanding play with the Jefferson High School football team. He later played at Washington State University before serving in World War II. Richard was shot down and killed on December 28, 1945 during a bombing raid over the Mariana Islands. He was buried at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland.
