Krieger Tinsmith and Sheet Metal Works

Founded by Johannes (John) Krieger. John was born in Norka, Russia, on August 6, 1877, the son of Johann Heinrich Krieger (1839-1893) and Catharina Elisabeth Wacker (1837-1930). He married Christina Burbach. John, Christina, and his widowed mother came to Alberta, Canada, in February 1903. A daughter, Anna, was born in Alberta in 1904. A son, Jacob, was born on August 18, 1906, in Alberta. The Krieger family relocated to Portland in January 1909, and at least three more children were born there (Irene, George, and Marie)

John owned a blacksmith shop, according to the 1910 U.S. Census. John's World War I Draft Registration Card shows that the shop was located at 698 Union Avenue North (later 3250 NE Union Avenue) in September 1918. In 1920 and 1930, John was listed as the proprietor of a tinsmith shop. The family lived at 826 Grand Avenue North (now 3924 NE Grand Avenue) during this time. John, Christina, and Marie lived at the same address in 1940. John died shortly after the census in Jun 1940. He was buried at the Rose City Cemetery.

John's son, Jacob (Jack), married Louise Schneider on June 2, 1928, in Portland. In 1930. Her family was from Switzerland. Jack and Louise were living with her parents on their fruit farm located along Columbia Boulevard. The farm later became part of the Broadmoor Golf Course, where Louise played competitive golf. Jack worked as an auto mechanic at the time. He took over the sheet metal business from his father sometime in the 1930s. Jack is listed in the 1940 U.S. Census as the manager of a sheetmetal shop at 422 NE Monroe, a few blocks south of the original shop.

Donald Krieger, the son of Jack and Louise, became a well-known professional golfer.
