John Nagel Dairyman
Johannes (John) Nagel was born in Norka, Russia, on January 28, 1865, the son of Johannes Nagel and Catharina Margaretha Deines. He married Catharina Maria Sinner on January 17, 1889. She is the daughter of Johann Adam Sinner and Anna Elisabeth Traudt. Two sons, Alexander and Johann Conrad, were born in Russia.
Johannes and Catharina immigrated to the United States in 1893 and initially settled in Kearney County, Nebraska. Three more children, Anna Katherine, Samuel, and Katie, were born there.
By about 1902, the Nagels were living in Portland, and John owned his own business delivering dairy and eggs with his horse and wagon.
At the time of the 1910 U.S. Census, the family was living at 691 Rodney Avenue (now 3237 NE Rodney Avenue).
John died on April 25, 1910. His funeral service was held at the German Lutheran Church at the corner of Williams and Graham Avenues. He was buried at the Rose City Cemetery.
Catharina married again to Heinrich Koch. She died on November 6, 1929, and was buried at the Rose City Cemetery.
